Central Theatre was owned by Late V. Ramasamy Naidu mill owner, industrialist in the year 1962. He was one among the Top 10 leading industrialists in India. Ramasamy Naidu was helped by his son R. Balasubramanian who finished his education in Philadelphia and later on helped his father to run the theatre.
Central Theatre was renovated in the year 1962. It was the second 70 mm theatre with 6 track Stereophonic Magnetic Sound system in entire South India. Cleopatra, a Shakespeare's classic movie was first screened in the Central Theatre. In 1985, Central Theatre complex had a new built Kanakadhara Theatre with 4 track Stereophonic Magnetic Surround Sound System. Later in the year 1995 R. Balasubramanian along with his son B.Sreeraj, further upgraded Central Theatre with Digital Theatre Sound (DTS) which was first in India.
In 1997, Central Theatre was again further upgraded with Dolby Digital Surround EX. Now, for the patrons comfortness, both Central & Kanakadhara theatres have come-up with Broader seating (broader seats 24"), the first of its kind in Coimbatore region. Broader Seating Rockers, Sofia, Multiplex push back seats and Europa seats which are presently installed in Metropolitan Multiplexes (Cinemax, PVR, Forum, Inox, Prasad, etc.,) is now available in VR Complex both Central and Kanakadhara Theatres. In 2007, the sound system was further upgraded to 8 Track 3 way surround EX Digital Theatre System and now with new 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound installed by Proprietor Mr. Sreeraj.
